SPECIAL EDITIONS FROM ADEGA CARTUXA CELEBRATE 60 YEARS OF THE EUGÉNIO DE ALMEIDA FOUNDATION The Eugénio de Almeida Foundation celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2023. With continued and increasingly comprehensive action in the Cultural, Educational, Social and Spiritual areas, the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation asserts itself as one of the most relevant Portuguese foundations, whose impact goes far beyond the region of Évora, the geographical area in which they reside, mainly, the Foundation's assets and where its activity is carried out. On this important date in the history of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, Adega Cartuxa launches a commemorative edition of wines and olive oil that commemorate the Foundation's remarkable journey through the excellence of its production. To indelibly mark 60 years of the EA Foundation, Adega Cartuxa presents six monovarietal red wines, two blend wines and one extra virgin olive oil. The 6 single-varietal reds symbolize the Foundation's 6-decade history. These are wines made from traditional grape varieties that played a preponderant role in the history of Cartuxa wine production, the Moreto, Castelão, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Caiada, Aragonez and Trincadeira varieties. In addition to these six monovarietal reds, a white and a red blend were also launched, as well as a high quality olive oil, all “designed” especially for this celebration. The white wine, a batch of several varieties, whose grapes were pressed in a process similar to the traditional one, fermented in French oak, without having been previously clarified, as was done in the past. It is an unfiltered white, so as not to “lose” any of its intrinsic characteristics. As a result we have a white wine different from those we commonly know, a white with a lot of character and, of course, with the unmistakable Carthusian quality.
The red wine is based on the six grape varieties that gave rise to the 6 monovarietals of this commemorative edition. This wine aims to evoke the richness and complementarity between the grape varieties that have supported the winery's production throughout history. Likewise, this creation by winemaker Pedro Baptista aims to enhance blended wines, something that summarizes what is most traditional in Cartuxa wines, in Alentejo, and in Portugal. The commemorative olive oil is an extra virgin olive oil, with very low acidity (0.14%), respecting the ancestral tradition of olive oil production in Alentejo. The olives, Picual and Arbequina, were harvested using traditional methods, when they were in a perfect state of ripeness, in order to maintain their exceptional characteristics. PREMIUM WOODEN BOX This limited edition commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation covers our history, through a selection of eight wines and one olive oil, all exclusive, in an edition of just 1000 bottles of each. The journey begins with a white wine, distinct and full of character. A blend of several varieties, prepared without resorting to clarification, which takes us to the origins of the Foundation. In the reds, discover the traditional Alentejo grape varieties, meticulously crafted over six decades to bring you extraordinary wines. Moreto, Castelão, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Caiada, Aragonez and Trincadeira.… Appreciate the particularities of each of them, in the six monovarietals of this collection.
