Quinta Da Gaivosa Vineyard of Lordelo

The desire to identify the origins of the Quinta da Gaivosa terroir has long existed. The quality of the different vineyards involved in this prestigious Douro red was already more than known. However, given their individual dimensions and small productions, they were made together, making it difficult to understand the contribution of different vineyards. In 2003, an additional effort finally made it possible to vinify the small parts of the whole in isolation, unraveling the expression, in its elementary form, of the various nuances and particularities of the best vineyards in Gaivosa. And that's how we (re) discovered the Lordelo Vineyard - the oldest of the Quinta da Gaivosa vineyards. An amazing collection of 30 indigenous varieties planted together (including rarities like “Malvasia Preta”). With more than 100 years, its scarce production (a small bunch per vine) would rationally lead to its replanting. But there is little rationale in a vineyard like Lordelo. There is emotion, history, legacy and a unique character that the Alves de Sousa family is happy to share with this wine.

Test results
Deep color. Notes of violets, eucalyptus, varnish and black plums. Deep, complex, but always with freshness and great elegance. The mouth is full of fresh fruit, licorice and spice. Surrounding, dense, but with remarkable harmony and balance.
